Boosting a child’s self esteem - sorted.
Gone are the days where academic progress is the only measurement in a child’s life, and thank goodness for that!
More and more, experts are talking about children’s self-esteem, confidence and grit, and how in this ever modernising and changing world, these are the indicators that can signal happiness.
There is one small tip, in the jungle of parenting advice that I read and latched onto – not only because it’s easy to do, but also, it’s fabulous for the home too!
PHOTOGRAPHS.
Did you know, it’s been proven that having photographs of a child in their home, with their family and friends has been proved to boost self-esteem. I would never have guessed that something so simple, could have such a profound affect.
Professor Geoff Beattie, Head of School and Dean of Psychological Sciences at the University of Manchester says: 'We cannot underestimate the power of photographs to keep us feeling linked to others and belonging. They cement us into our networks.
'For children in particular, looking at photographs is part of the socialising process; learning who you are and where you fit into the family. By displaying photographs of our children at different stages of their lives, we are making a very public statement that we are proud of them.'
I can understand the science, being able to refer to photographs of you and your loved ones on the wall, creates a feeling of positivity and gratitude (even if they don’t know it) and also shows a complete acceptance of who they are.
I doubt it stops at children either – our brains can be re-wired when we think positively and having family photographs on the wall would certainly bring joy to adults as well!
Do you display your family photographs, or are they all tucked away on a hard drive? It’s so hard with the rapid pace of life, and the invention of camera phones to keep up with printing photographs. That’s why, my photography collections are curated to always include credit towards my gorgeous shop where you can buy prints, frames and albums.
